How can you “burn out at work”
Having dealt with processor cooling issues, we can now easily figure out the question of why Duron processors burn up if they are turned on without a heatsink. Generally speaking,…

“Think for yourself, decide for yourself …”

Until now, we have considered solutions that save money when organizing the LAN of a small office due to some compromises with standards. There is another way of organizing the office cable system, not designed to save money by the methods discussed above, but rather, assuming some of their redundancy at the initial stage, but giving savings later. Comparison of motherboards supporting the new memory standard PC2100 (DDR266)

AMD processors have long gained popularity among computer users due to their high performance at low cost. Therefore, it is understandable that new motherboards for AMD processors will appear on the market with support for the 133 MHz system bus frequency (the equivalent frequency is 266 MHz) and with DDR SDRAM PC2100 memory support. So far, only the AMD-760 chipset provides this capability. Continue reading

“Divide and rule”

As a horizontal cable in modern SCS, a four-pair balanced cable is used mainly. It is known that for signal transmission in Ethernet and Fast Ethernet networks, only two out of four pairs are used. The remaining pairs are virtually idle. The technical characteristics of modern cables in terms of the NEXT parameter are very high (see Fig. 1), which allows the use of free pairs for transmitting analog and digital signals without any noticeable effect on the operation of the main application. We get rid of “unnecessary” equipment

The cable system of small offices, as a rule, has only a horizontal subsystem SCS, since the office itself is usually located on one floor. Standards provide for the horizontal subsystem SCS the presence of floor cross. Horizontal cables diverge from floor crossings to workplace outlets. Recently, in almost all newly installed office networks, Fast Ethernet 100Base TX technology has been used, which places high demands on the parameters of the cable system. Continue reading

New process technology
In the very near future, a transition to a 0.13-micron process is expected. This transition has long been promised by leading processor manufacturers, but for various reasons, its implementation has…

What is a model number?
Before comparing with competing processors, let's look at the performance of Athlon XP processors with different CPUIDs. The model number is simply the number of a specific model in the…

No matter how unique a processor may be, there will always be tasks for which its performance will not be enough. Most often these are tasks of three-dimensional modeling (for…
