The first video cards with 3D accelerators caused us a lot of trouble with their “hot temperament”. Some video cards could work normally only the first 10 … 20 minutes after switching on. Therefore, fans from 486 processors were immediately in short supply. Video cards hung with fans began to resemble branches of sea buckthorn. But this is all in the past. For all modern graphics cards, the thermal mode is reasonably well thought out. In most cases, you should not even think about a possible overheating of the video card. Many video cards have fans installed, in some cases even with a clear margin.
Such a radiator with a fan provides an acceptable thermal regime not only under normal conditions, but also during accelerator acceleration.
Simpler graphics cards can be supplied without a fan. On the accelerator chip, only a radiator is installed, usually a needle. This is a very efficient radiator, and if some attention is paid to reducing the air temperature in the case, then the video card works quite stably. But for peace of mind, it is useful to install a light fan on this radiator. Such fans are not in short supply right now. You can fix it without any problems using, for example, plastic mounting ties.
Hard disks are also causing a lot of trouble now. Hard disk manufacturers not only significantly increased the capacity of their drives, but also significantly improved their speed characteristics. The pleasure of working with such disks has become greater, but the amount of heat generated by them has also increased. Excessive heating of hard drives rarely leads to a computer “freezing” or to other visible manifestations of their discontent. However, their service life is sharply reduced. Therefore, when installing disks with a rotation speed of 7200 rpm or more, it is necessary to consider individual cooling of the disks, or at least take into account the need for their cooling when solving the problem of creating a normal temperature regime inside the case.
Individual cooling of hard drives can be carried out by forced blowing of the drives or by drawing hot air from the surface of the drives.
To blow the disks, fans specially designed for this are installed directly on the front panel of the computer. The most common fans are Mapower and Just cooler.
